When you are an old seasoned antique dealer, every once in a while, something comes in the door and screams, take me home! This 18th century French walnut serpentine buffet had me measuring every wall in the house, to see if it would squeeze in anywhere, but no such luck and we tried hard. This is about as sweet an old antique French buffet as you could ever imagine and miraculously, no one seems to have touched it, in more than 200-years. No refinishing, no repairing, no worm damage, nothing, but the most magnificent patina as you have ever seen. On a general basis, our Old Plank restoration shop, will typically spend 30-40-hours on structural issues and worm repair, but not this buffet. This untouched gem of an antique French buffet, went into restoration at 6am and exited by 9am (key would not work in the lock, now it does). From restoration, this antique French buffet slid over to the finishing department, with the strict written orders to dust the buffet and use your fingernail to pop-off a couple splatters of paint that must have some from someone’s remodeling project. What we have is an untouched, unrestored, figured walnut, antique French serpentine front buffet, made in the 1700’s in the nicest original condition, as we have seen in the last 25-years. So, if you are looking for shiny and fully restored, this is not the buffet for you, but should truly appreciate one of the finest original 18th century French buffets, then this one deserves a good hard serious look, for there are not many left in their original state. Think of what the Antique Roadshow constantly preaches; original finish.
