Antique French Louis XVI style black display case, curio cabinet, vitrine or bookcase and I think all the descriptions are applicable. The French expert, described this as Louis XVI style, Époque Napoléon III, which translates to the “time” of Napoléon III, who of course was the nephew of Napoléon I. Napoléon III or Napoléon Bonaparte, was born in 1808 and died in 1873 and was President of France from 1848 to 1852. When Napoléon could not be constitutionally re-elected, he seized power. In 1852 he became Emperor until 1870. So, in essence, the French expert has stated, that our Louis XVI style black bookcase, was produced during the reign of Napoléon Bonaparte or sometime prior to 1870. The black bookcase’s finish is original and has not been restored or enhanced and all the bronze ornaments, on this Louis XVI style black bookcase, are also original.
