Pair of exceptionally large, (three-foot cube) vintage Versailles Orangerie planters. The French call the planters, L’Orangerie du Chateau de Versailles In Winter months, the Versailles Orangerie holds more a thousand trees, primarily orange trees in their Orangerie planter boxes. In late Spring to early Fall, the trees are placed back outside in the Parterre Bas. Our Old Plank restoration department, recently refinished the wood in a solid black and coated the underside of the steel inserts, with a protective commercial coating, to prevent the planter metal liners from rusting. When it comes to dating these planters, I have to be honest and have no clue, but clearly the interior liners, did show some heavy weathering, which is why we coated them.
