Art lover and Sugar cube king, Henry Tate was responsible for making the sugar cube popular. Henry was 20 when he purchased his first Liverpool grocery store and ultimately expanding to six store in Liverpool. By 1859 Henry made a huge jump into the sugar business, from which made Henry a very wealthy person. Henry Tate donated his vast art collection, and paid to construct a gallery to display them. Henry wanted the gallery to be called “The National Gallery of British Art, but everyone simply refers to it as; The Tate Gallery.
