Enamel cookware began in Germany, during the 18th century. During the early 1800s, vitreous enamel coating, referred to as porcelain in the states, for kitchen pans were becoming popular. Enamel came to America after Europe in the mid-1850s. In Philadelphia, the Stuart and Peterson foundry began making enamel-lined pots by the 1860s. What we have here, is an enamelware Turkey platter, probably made in the 1950s and very nice original condition.
